Original photographies taken by my mother Lucille

I approach photography as a symbolic gesture to understand the past and rebuild the present. Whether it is digitally or physically, I alter photos to convey a second timeline illustrating both my Chinese and French-Canadian heritage. In Family Archive Series, the date and the precise location of the original pictures dates back to the renovations made to my parents’ house in 2004. That being said, I convey a new reading from the original footage by exploring the materiality of photographic paper, and extending its transportability. The replication of the woven design of Chinese calendars offers a singular input on the ongoing adaptation required to learn about my native culture from a westerner point of view.
